Designed to completely close an entrance line to a facility and bring vehicles to a halt, BGI's anti-ramming arm barriers are the barriers of choice for military, government and commercial installations around the world.

The K-series barriers, with their unique cable systems and hydraulic or pneumatic operation protect government and corporate compounds and border crossings providing high-security to any location where an anti-ramming or anti-theft solution is required.

Installation configurations suit all sites and options include surface-mounting for temporary or mobile use, deep side foundations or shallow cross-road foundations.

K3000 - Mobile Double Arm Cable Barrier

This configuration is suited to remote locations where no power is available and can be moved from location to location. This cable barrier incorporates exposed concrete blocks that wrap around the vehicle on impact, bringing it to a halt.

K4000 - Double Arm Cable Barrier - Pneumatic

The K4000 is a lighter double cable barrier with an aluminium arm which can be pneumatically operated due to its lighter weight. Pneumatic operation results in faster cycles and is suitable for high traffic volumes.

L4000 - Single Arm Cable Barrier

This light arm barrier has a minimal look and profile, but incorporates an anchored cable to bring smaller vehicles to a halt. It is particularly effective as an additional line of defense against motorbikes where bollards form the primary line of defense against vehicles.

K5000 - Single Arm Cable Barrier

The K5000 was developed in response to a demand for a cable barrier which would close a perimeter line and provide anti-ramming protection for lower threat levels than the K6000. The design offers an elegant barrier with a low profile yet the ability to effectively stop cars and trucks.

K6000 - Mobile Dual Arm Cable Barrier

Engineered to meet the demanding requirements of the security services, the K6000 offers maximum protection against a ramming vehicle. With configurations suitable for military or civilian installations, this barrier has been proven in the field to stop vehicles in their tracks.

K6005 - Mobile/Fixed Dual Arm Cable Barrier

This elegant anti-ramming barrier is mounted on a steel plate which requires little or no foundations. The barrier is mounted on a wide steel plate which can be easily deployed for mobile solutions or installed permanently where deep foundations are not possible. On impact, the entire barrier tips up, thereby wedging the plate into the vehicle and bringing it to an immediate stop.

K6010 - Fixed Dual Arm Cable Barrier

The K6010 is a version of the K6000 with concrete anchors fully hidden under the road surface. Hydraulically powered, it is used where a high level of anti-ramming protection is required with a lower profile barrier. Elegant, reliable and with fast operation, this barrier has been proven in the field to stop vehicles in their tracks.

K6100 - Interlocking Dual Arm Cable Barrier

Where wider spans are required, without compromising the need stop vehicles from ramming, BGI developed the K6100 interlocking barrier consisting of two dual arm, dual cable barriers which meet and interlock. This enables a much wider span without compromising the ability of the barrier to stop a vehicle.

K8000 - Shallow Foundation Dual Arm Barrier

The K8000 arm barrier has been engineered to meet the PAS 68 / K12 standard but uniquely, it requires a foundation of only 500mm. This makes it an ideal solution for high security installations at locations where subterranean constraints prevent deep foundations. The K8000 is hydraulically operated and is elegantly designed, providing the highest level of security with a low profile.

The Technology of Cable Barriers

Gate Crash TestBGI's K-series cable barriers are constructed to provide the highest level of protection against ramming. In the event of an attempt to break through the barrier, the cables, which are hidden in the body of the steel gate arms, capture the chassis of the vehicle and transfer the energy of the moving vehicle to the concrete anchors. These anchors, which can be surface mounted or below-surface, bring the vehicle to a halt. In the case of the K6000 and K3000 mobile barriers, the concrete blocks which rest on the ground, wrap around the vehicle disabling it and ensuring the vehicle cannot proceed forward.

Protection

Engineered to meet both the US DOS and UK PAS standards, the unique K-series anti-ramming design has been proven in the field against threats including terror and theft. The K-series barriers are installed across the world and are the de-facto standard for drop arm barrier solutions for the security services and military in a number of countries. The K6000 and K5000 are also used extensively to protect commercial interests with the two-way barriers preventing threats from entering or exiting.

Operation

The K6000 and K5000 series barriers are operated by an electro-hydraulic mechanism providing superior operation and unprecedented reliability. The K4000 barrier is operated by a unique pneumatic mechanism resulting in very low maintenance, fast and reliable operation.

In both cases, opening time is user definable between 5 and 8 seconds and the opening and closing speeds can be set independently. The barriers are simple to install and require little maintenance.

The gates are designed to be manually opened and closed in the event of a power failure. In the case of pneumatically operated systems, the compressed air tank will allow for at least 5 gate operation cycles without electricity.

Configurations

Mobile (Anchored): Surface mounted anchors are placed on the ground at either end of the barrier. This allows for quick deployment of an anti-ramming solution and provides a particularly innovative solution to the varied and changing needs of the police and military.
Mobile (Plate) The barrier is mounted on a wide steel plate which can be easily deployed for mobile solutions or installed permanently where deep foundations are not possible. On impact, the steel plate tips up into the vehicle bringing it to an immediate stop.
Deep Foundations In this fixed configuration, the anchors are installed underground in order to provide a more elegant appearance. This solution is typically used in urban areas where the anchors must be hidden to preserve the aesthetics of the neighborhood.

A range of advanced safety features are available to ensure peace of mind and avoid unintended operation. Inductive loop vehicle detectors installed in the road.

  • Edge sensors on the arm to stop or reverse the barrier if a collision is detected.
  • Photo-electric cells to further ensure that the barriers are not in motion while something is passing.
  • Lights to indicate when it is safe/unsafe to pass or when barriers are in motion.
  • Sirens to indicate that a barrier is in motion.
  • Speed bumps to slow down approaching traffic.
